Ethan Barnett, better known as Ten Tonnes released his latest single, Born To Lose, on Thursday. The Hertfordshire singer-songwriter is the brother of George Ezra and he definitely has the potential to emulate the success of his older sibling.
Born To Lose is the second single from the forthcoming EP of the same title, which has been produced by Hugo White of the Maccabees. Ethan released Silver Heat in March as the first track from the EP which promises to be an exciting collection of gems.
The upbeat, guitar pop sound is one that we’ve all heard before, but with well-written, character-filled lyrics, Ten Tonnes delivers brilliance nonetheless. With a sound similar to The Kooks among others, Barnett is an upcoming artist that everyone should be excited about.
Ten Tonnes’ debut EP Lucy was released last year and made for perfect summer listening. The title track remains, for me, his best piece to date. It’s difficult to decipher a meaning from the lyrics but the infectious riff and bold, distinct vocals give the track a top drawer sing-along quality. If we’re talking sunny road trip tunes, Lucy is right up there with the best.
Ten Tonnes caught the eye of many through the promotion of BBC Introducing, the platform that has a healthy habit of bringing talented new bands and artists to our attention. Ethan also played the BBC introducing stage at Reading last year, where he is sure to return in the future.
Britain has always produced great male solo artists and with the emergence of Ratboy and Declan Mckenna in recent years, the talent keeps coming. Ten Tonnes easily falls into this category of promising youthful sounds.
Barnett has had a busy 2017 so far. Along with release of the singles and EP, he performed in Austin, Texas at SXSW festival. You can currently catch him on tour with another emerging artist, Will Joseph Cook.
Born To Lose will be released on the 9th June and can be pre-ordered on 12” vinyl now. It’s important to support as much new music as you can, so if you’re looking for some fresh indie guitar tunes to brighten up your day, make sure you check out and support Ten Tonnes.
